About the festival

Sister festival to the Wooden Boat Festival

This is the festival celebrating clean lines and the Norwegian love of boating. We bring together the fibreglass boats from the 1950s to the 1980s that defined summers for generations, and which today stand as symbols of Scandinavian design and functionality at its best.

The theme for 2026

Design that can withstand the elements

If the classic Nordic plastic boats are a design marvel, the same holds true on land. The same clean lines and the same sense of optimism characterised both the boats at sea and the furniture in the living room.

During this year’s festival, you can enjoy exhibitions, sales, talks and workshops that showcase Norwegian design at its most confident.

If the classic boats from the 1950s to the 1980s are a design adventure, the same is true on land. At the retro market during Risør Classic, you’ll find furniture, interior design and other items from the same era that characterise the boats in the harbour. Here you’ll find exhibitions, sales and great finds from a period when Nordic design left its mark both at sea and in the living room.

Festival pass

Three retro days by the sea — for just a tenner.

Classic plastic boats moored in Risør harbour, mid-century design in the streets, and a retro atmosphere everywhere. Have a chat with the boat owners, admire the lines of a Fjordling, or enjoy a coffee in the sunshine.

If you’re aged 16 or over, you can buy a festival pass for 100 kroner. It’s a hundred-kroner note that helps us fill the harbour with retro delights again next year. What’s more, it gives you festival perks throughout the city.
